Exercise makes me happy!

Add EXERCISE/BEING ACTIVE to my list of favorite things.  It is my physical and emotional stress reliever, my “rough” day remedy is to hop on a treadmill, blast Ke$ha, set the speed above 10 mph and GO!  As the beloved Elle Woods said, ““Exercise gives you endorphins.  Endorphins make you happy.  Happy people just don’t kill their husbands.” Bottom-line, exercise makes me happy.  My only exercise goal is to be stronger today than I was yesterday.  I aim to challenging myself, push my limits, and best my best.  Others inspire me, but for now, I am my only competition.

My training philosophy is variety, progression, and intensity; every workout should be different from the previous one, progress your resistance/repetitions/sets, and push yourself!  The exercises I complete are a combination of traditional, unique one-of-a-kind ideas, research, and knowledge from friends.

My goal with this blog is to share my favorite exercises and workouts to inspire you to achieve your fitness goals!

Example of this week’s workouts:
2/3: 3.5 mile run w/ 10 x 150 meter steep hill repeats
2/4: 1 mile run (6:09). Row at highest resistance x the amount of time it took to run the first mile (1400). 1 mile run (5:52). Plyometrics – 3 rounds of 10 double leg box jumps, 10 single leg box jumps, 10 split squat jumps, handstand x 10 seconds.  Ab workout.
2/5: 10 minute warm-up on stair stepper.  3 rounds of 10 single leg squats on bosu (ball down) w/ 30# kettlebell, 10 single leg deadlift on bosu w/ 30lb kettlebell, 10 split squats w/ 30# kettlebell, 8 dead hang pull ups. 3 rounds of 20 push ups, 10 plank rows x 20# dumbbells, 20 bicep curls with 20# dumbbells, body weighted dips w/ 20# dumbbell between legs. Ab workout
2/6: half mile warm up. 6 rounds of 24 squats, 24 push ups, 24 walking lunges, run 400 meters (compliments of a Forged Fitness WOD)

My background:
I grew up playing sports, up to 8 sports in one year (cross-country, soccer, basketball, skiing, track and field, softball, swimming, and tennis).  I was a four-sport Varsity athlete in high school (cross-country, basketball, track, and swimming).  I was a three-time All-American track and field athlete in college.  I have not raced since Nationals my senior year of college, but two of my thirty goals for 2013 is to run a 5k and train for a figure competition, hurray for new challenges!

I majored in Exercise Science at Point Loma Nazarene University and received my Doctor of Physical Therapy graduate degree from Duke University.  I was employed as a personal trainer during graduate school.  I am extremely passionate about fitness because bodies were made to move!
